Month By Month: 2/12

Simple and achievable.

Our first monarch butterfly.

One of the kittens from down the street came to visit. You loved petting and playing with it.

Highlight of the afternoon: watching the concrete mixer across the street pouring cement.

An outtake from our photo shoot the other day. You thought you were hilarious.

Crochet: Plain Ribbed Beanie

Even though Summer appears to have only just arrived, I've been working on some of my winter projects starting with a hat for me.

I didn't want anything fancy, just a basic beanie to keep my head warm on our frosty morning walks to school. As you can see, it actually fits R but this is one hat that he's not having - I'll be whipping up another one for him.

I love the look of the ribbing and I'm glad that I decided to add it. It also makes the band extra cushy so it should keep my ears nice and warm.

The Little Moose Who Couldn't Go To Sleep
(A Maynard Moose Tale) by Willy Claflin, illustrated by James Stimson

Maynard Moose is a story teller and can often be found telling tales by the bedside of his cousin Little Moose.

This particular story is about a little Moose who has a hard time getting to sleep at night and as a result finds herself struggling at school. She tries a number of different things before finding a solution.

The book comes with the following warning:

Let's just say that my brain was sufficiently scrumbled by the time I reached the end of the book but my progress was made easier by the inclusion of a Moose/English glossary.

I was a little put off by the way it's written but I do understand that this is the moose style of speaking intended by the author and I thought that the unique moose vocabulary was a fun addition.

The story itself feels a bit like a fairy tale and both adult readers and children will be able to relate to certain aspects of it. The illustrations are super cute and are a perfect match for the sweet nature of the story.

Sweet Pouch Swap #3

Recently I had the opportunity to join in the 3rd round of the Sweet Pouch Swap hosted by Ros.

As it turns out my swap partner and I share similar tastes which took a lot of the pressure off.

I wanted to let the bird fabric shine so I paired it with a neutral linen. It was my first time sewing with linen and I love the look of it in this pouch. The linen is fairly sturdy so I didn't need to use any interfacing and I lined it with aqua homespun for an extra pop of colour.

I paired it with my usual treats - you can't get much more Kiwi than that.

Minecraft: Enderman Cushion

It was my brother's birthday last week and he's really into his Minecraft at the moment. Now I know nothing about Minecraft so I asked my own little Minecraft fan what I should make and showed him a few ideas and this is what we came up with - an Enderman cushion.

It was really quick to make and R has requested that I make one for him as well.

And sticking with the Minecraft theme I just had to make a Creeper cake.
